Step 1 was to drop down to 300 lbs. and keep as much strength as possible. I've dropped the weight and am down 45 lbs. from my last competition weight......That is good; however, I've lost a ton of strength. My squat alone is probably down close to 100 lbs and my bench probably 50, so I'm not too happy about that right now. I'm hoping within the next few weeks my strength comes back since I'm eating more calories. I'm also trying to keep my body weight at 300 for at least a couple of months.
Over the next 8 weeks, I'm going to get back into strongman training and really work on conditioning. I'm planning on competing in a strongman competition in June so I really need to get my strength back up to par.
My weekly plan is thus:
Day 1
Overhead work
Farmers walk
Arms= bicep and triceps; I no longer neglect my biceps as I used to (see attached photo). Since strongman events place a lot of stress on the biceps I plan on doing higher reps on the direct arm work.
Day 2
Throwing; I competed in the North American Highlander Association Portland Highlander last year which has both strongman and highland games events. I'm not very good at the throws, but man are they fun. So I keep trying to improve on them. I believe the throws will help my agility and speed.
Day 3
Bench work; I'm a powerlifter at heart!
Arm over arm rope pulls
Strongman carries
Day 4
Grip work
Day 5
Squats or Deadlifts or Goodmornings
Sled work
Shoulder stuff
Day 6
Kettlebells
